Midas has been a console manufacturer for over 40 years. The British company used that amount of experience to craft the forward-thinking Midas M32R digital mixer. It features 16 award-winning MIDAS PRO microphone preamplifiers, 40 simultaneous input channels and 25 time-aligned and phase-coherent mix buses. AES50 networking allows for even more inputs and outputs (96 x 96 to be precise). The Midas M32R has an open architecture design, which allows for future 96kHz operation, as well as ADC and DAC converters that operate at 192kHz. This is the rack version of the Midas M32. Midas wanted the M32R to be a combination of today’s advanced technology and classic British console design, so they enlisted the help of Bentley Motors Designer Rajesh Kutty. According to Midas, the design teams at leading automotive manufacturers like Bentley, and Aston Martin are skilled at taking the essence of brands and meshing them with innovative, technological advancements. This inspired them to bring Kutty onboard. The designer looked at the straightforward layouts, usability and ergonomics of past Midas consoles. Midas and Kutty created the M32R with a space-frame construction. Parts of the sub-frame consist of high quality aluminum. Multiple alloys were used throughout the design to offer maximum component efficiency. The result is a sturdy exterior with a sleek interface.
One of the best features of this Midas digital mixer is the inclusion of 16 award-winning microphone preamplifiers. These microphone preamplifiers are considered to be the essence of the famous Midas sound. The manufacturer combined their 40+ years of design experience with premium-grade components that results in beautiful warmth, depth and a subtle ambience. The design of the mic preamps inside the M32R digital mixing console helps eliminate typical balance issues of gain-setting stages. This improves the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) and harmonic distortion.
The Midas M32R has plenty of other features besides the microphone preamplifiers. This digital mixing console is rackmountable and includes brackets with the package. The surface of the console is intuitive and offers a smooth workflow. The channel strip sets the most important processing parameters into a single section. This way the controls are always the same, regardless of what channel is in use. Levels and statuses are clearly indicated thanks to optimized control illumination. The rotary encoders are also illuminated and give users control over preamp settings, frequency shelving, dual dynamics sections, as well as multi-mode fully parametric EQ, bus sends. Also included on the surface of the Midas M32R is a five-inch day-viewable color thin-film transistor (TFT) display. This display shows all vital functions and is complimented by tactile encoders that offer control over a wide range of parameters.
